Who are we?

We’re the WSU
Student Partners.

We're a group of WSU students who have all had very different experiences of the university.

Over the past 5 years we have had over 40 students from different degrees and stages of their university journey as SCPs: student partners from science, business, medicine, the humanities all the way to education, law, psychology, and social science. Some of us have been in our first years of an undergraduate degree, whilst others have transitioned to a PhD. Some of us have been here for 3 months while others have been here for 3 years. We have both international and local students too.

But the one thing that has brought us all together is that when we look back at our university experiences, we realise things could be better.

And this work provides us with a chance to contribute to making the university a better place through co-creation. Now whether that is making better curriculum, a better LMS / vUWS site, or better learning experiences, underpinning all our work is the idea of partnership. Partnering with each other, staff, external partners and the university. It’s been quite a journey!

Our Story

Five years ago, our University took the view that the curriculum needed to better prepare students for a changed world of work, and to live in a more complex and challenging society. We needed to expand the way we created curriculum to include staff, students, industry, and the community, as partners. That’s the essence of the 21C Project.

What we do

From co-creating curriculum in our curriculum challenges, to co-researching and contributing to the global Student-Staff Partnership community, and leading our own transformative initiatives,
the work we do is diverse.

And, this work is transformative.

Being a Student Partner opens up a side of the university to us as students that normally is hidden. From seeing how decisions are made to understanding the life of academics and the cycle of university teaching, this work gives us a chance to make a contribution which not only changes the university… we ourselves have been changed too through the process.
