Curriculum

Reimagined

At Western, we’ve taken a new approach to the way curriculum is being developed in the university. We believe that getting students involved has beneficial outcomes for everyone: staff and students alike.

Through the adoption of Partnership Pedagogy, we’ve co-created new transdisciplinary curriculum that equips our graduates for the future of work.

Find Your Challenge.

If you’re enrolled in a degree or program that has substantial elective space, you have an opportunity to pursue your curiosity beyond the basics of your degree. You can transform your degree by choosing to study an area you’re deeply invested in. By making that choice, you will develop skills and mindsets that you can apply immediately in your studies. This is the difference you need, to stand out from the hundreds of other students graduating with the same degree as you.

  • Sustainability Advocates

We need Sustainability Advocates — graduates who are visionaries; leaders who are determined, passionate, and invested more than ever to push for an equitable and hopeful future.

  • Innovative Entrepreneurs

We need Innovative Entrepreneurs — graduates who are adaptable, self-aware, and who possess a diverse set of practical skills. They can solve problems, inspire people, and drive authentic transformation.

  • Future Thinkers

We need Future Thinkers — graduates who can help us wrestle with improving unjust and unfair systems, and who have the commitment and tools to turn us towards a world that is collective, inclusive, and equitable.

  • Global Citizen

We need Global Citizens — graduates with the capability to understand, navigate and engage with a complex, globalising world. They are committed to collective and international social change.

Transform your Degree Today

What is this about?

Western’s Challenge Minors equip students with the skillsets necessary to make a difference in the rapidly changing world of work. To take part, it’s important to understand how your degree is structured.

15 NEW

Challenge Minors

Working with staff and external partners, we co-created 15 new and exciting transdisciplinary Challenge Minors that empower any WSU student to expand their skillsets and capabilities beyond their degree.

From Minors that explore sustainability and migration, to those that encourage creative problem solving, you’re bound to find a Minor among those available.

Your Curriculum Challenge Guide

Check out the Guide to Western’s new transdisciplinary curriculum. It’s an overview of each Curriculum Challenge and it links to the university’s Handbook where you can find out more.

Curiosity Pods

We also co-created Curiosity Pods. These are tasters: short, free, online learning experiences for any Western student, from any degree, to learn something they're curious and passionate about.

You can enrol in as many Curiosity Pods as you like. If one takes your fancy, then you can enrol in the subject that it is associated with. It’s quite a neat idea.
