Sydney City Campus Learning & Teaching Festival
We are always delighted to take up invitations to talk about our 21C student partnership work to staff in the University. So were thrilled to receive an invitation from Chair of Academic Senate Associate Professor Alphia Possamai-Inesedy and Dr John McGuire to be at the inaugural Sydney City Campus Learning and Teaching Festival. It is fair to say we didn't know much about the Sydney City campus. Making our way into Elizabeth St in Sydney's CBD, we had prepared a video overview of the work we had done as part of the 21C project.
After being welcomed by the DVC Academic Professor Denise Kirkpatrick and a spirited keynote address by A/Prof Sophie Karanicolas from the University of Adelaide outlining the fascinating work she had done to flip her units in Dentistry to better engage students (and student partners), we got a chance to showcase our developing #WeAreTheUniversity unit (and listen to others like Tim Griffin talk about assessment).
The staff at the Sydney City campus were attentive; they provided us with new angles on our work; invited us to think about how we would deilver the unit cross-campus for scale, and whether their own students would have access to the unit.
It was so great to receive such warm enthusiasm. And as always, we get to learn more about the complexity and politics of how units are put together behind the scenes and the efforts staff go to really consider student learning. It is always eye opening to be in on those conversations. Thanks for the invite Alphia and John!
