The Living Library

Through a suite of partnership projects with staff in our University Library, we are working together to support a paradigm shift to the Library of the Future. We aim to be alongside library staff as we shape how students experience what a library is for, and what it can do. And in the process, we laugh, eat snacks, co-create, and cultivate our curiosities.

“How does Partnership invite us to re-imagine the possibility and potential of a university library? What future can we make together?”

“Our partnership with the Western Sydney University library is filled with possibility, warmth, and endless opportunity. By reading, co-creating, and coming together in conversation as students and library staff, we hope to contribute to the growing conception of academic libraries as a natural place of partnership.”

Featured Projects

  • Rethinking the Academic Integrity Module (AIM)

The AIM module invites students to learn about and practise academic integrity. As part of the university’s Academic Literacy Strategy, we have been working alongside library staff to re-think AIM, and to co-create the module content that is engaging for our student community. Launch date is 2024.

  • Academic Literacy Events

There is a huge on emphasis on academic literacy in our university, and its developmental requires a multi-faceted approach. In this project, our goal is to support the library’s ambition to communicate the opportunities students have to understand, cultivate, talk about, ask questions, and get excited about what they can do with the literacies they develop.

  • Books, Writers & Content Makers

There are so many wonderful and renowned writers and authors among our staff at the University. The library can be a place to showcase their work. And, we have a challenge in front of us to support students’ reading practices and habits. Kicking off in late September 2023, this project aims to bring those two challenges together. “Our libraries have always been student focussed, but our new approach of working with students in partnership just elevates and amplifies it even more.”
