Curriculum Making with Staff
Written by Maria Manthos
It was all hands on deck today in an intense curriculum-building, student-partnering, content-creating session! I got to be involved in the groundwork of designing a 21C Curiosity Pod hosted by the School of Social Sciences and Psychology. Even though I was outnumbered (being the only student in the room), I got to be just as involved in the process. Normally, a student only reads the learning outcomes when they enrol in a unit of study but I actually got to help WRITE them! Check out my multiple attempts at writing them. It wasn’t as easy as I thought!
What I got out of this conversation was how naturally partnership works between staff and students.
There were times when the academics would talk about ‘academic stuff’ but there were just as many times when we would talk about ‘student stuff’ that academics were surprised to hear. I found that it was the conversations that combined the ‘academic’ and the ‘student’ stuff that ignited an explosion of ideas! Thanks to Rosemary, Gina and Tai for the stimulating conversation.
